Why your spray tan needs water
Skin that has been hydrated from both the inside out (by hitting your water quota every day) and the outside in (by regularly using external skincare) is the perfect canvas for an even, long-lasting tan.
Why? Because DHA (the active ingredient in tan solution) reacts with the top layer of your skin to produce colour. If the top layer of your skin is dry and/or dehydrated, it's going to be flaky. Because the flakier skin is 'thirsty', it's going to absorb more tan solution than the less 'thirsty' parts of your skin, so put simply - your skin is going to absorb tan unevenly.
Uneven tan absorption, means an uneven tan, and there's no coming back from it.
To avoid an uneven tan, it's all in the preparation. My tips for getting your top layer of skin in the best condition before a tan are:
- drink at least 2 litres of water a day, to hydrate from the inside out
- moisturise your skin morning and night with a moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid (a substance that retains moisture and attracts over 1000x its weight in water!) and non-comodegenic oils, like the Esmi Skin Snack, to hydrate and nourish from the outside in
